St. Gabriel Grocery & Deli is more than a place to pick up lunch or groceries—it is a piece of local history.
The country-store building dates to the 1820s and is described by the business as one of Louisiana’s oldest operating stores. Its interior preserves reminders of earlier generations, including antiques, old-fashioned bottles and LSU football schedules dating back to 1958.
The deli serves homemade sandwiches, po’boys, hot boudin, salads, hamburgers, barbecue roast beef, hot sausage and hometown cracklins. Customers can also find groceries, snacks, bottled drinks, beer and homemade pecan candy. Traditional home-cooked lunches are offered on Thursdays.
St. Gabriel Grocery & Deli gives residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy familiar Louisiana food inside a building that carries nearly two centuries of River Road character.
