The incumbent board member is asking District B voters for another term as Iberville Parish schools prepare for a new superintendent and a changing board.
Catherine Williams has officially qualified to seek reelection as the District B representative on the Iberville Parish School Board.
Williams, a Democrat, qualified on August 5, 2026. She will face Tonette Todd when District B voters go to the polls on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
As the incumbent representative, Williams enters the race with direct experience in school governance and the decisions affecting students, educators, employees and families throughout Iberville Parish.
The district’s official website currently identifies Williams as its District B board member.
Experience on the School Board
The Iberville Parish School Board is responsible for establishing policies governing the administration and management of the parish’s public schools.
Although board members are elected from individual districts, their decisions affect the entire school system.
Their responsibilities include:
- Establishing districtwide education policies.
- Approving and overseeing the school system’s budget.
- Selecting and evaluating the superintendent.
- Reviewing facilities, staffing and operational priorities.
- Monitoring academic performance.
- Supporting career and technical education.
- Representing students, parents and residents within their districts.
Williams’ experience on the board gives District B voters an opportunity to evaluate her record and determine whether they want her to continue participating in those decisions.
Creating Opportunities for Children
Williams used the message “Creating a Better Tomorrow for Children Who Are Our Future” during her 2022 campaign.
Because the slogan appeared on campaign material from the previous election, it should not automatically be presented as her official 2026 message without confirmation. It does, however, reflect the education-centred theme associated with her service on the board.
School-board leadership can shape the opportunities children encounter from their earliest classroom experiences through graduation.
Decisions involving academic programmes, student safety, career preparation, school facilities and employee support can influence whether students leave school prepared for college, technical training, employment or entrepreneurship.
For an elected representative, building a better future for children therefore requires more than an encouraging message. It involves studying policies, overseeing public resources and making decisions whose effects may continue for years.
Serving During a Leadership Transition
The 2026 election arrives during a significant period of change for Iberville Parish schools.
Several board seats are changing because of term limits. The district is also preparing for a transition in superintendent leadership as Dr. Louis Voiron approaches retirement.
Earlier in 2026, Williams joined Yolanda Holmes and Yolanda Laws in opposing a proposal that allowed the existing board to select the next superintendent before the incoming board took office.
Her position emphasized allowing the next group of elected board members to participate in one of the district’s most consequential leadership decisions.
The current board ultimately moved forward with the selection process. On September 14, it appointed Rebecca Johnson as superintendent-elect. Johnson is expected to succeed Voiron following his retirement at the end of the current school year.
The incoming board will therefore inherit responsibility for working with the new superintendent, monitoring the transition and helping establish the district’s next set of priorities.
Representing District B
Williams’ reelection campaign gives District B residents an opportunity to consider what kind of representation they want during this new chapter.
Her experience provides familiarity with the district’s operations, policies and current challenges. Her opponent’s candidacy gives voters an alternative perspective to evaluate.
The campaign can help residents examine questions such as:
- How should the board measure academic progress?
- What support do teachers and school employees need?
- How should the district prepare students for college and careers?
- Which facilities and programmes require greater investment?
- How can parents and community members participate more fully?
- What should the board expect from its new superintendent?
These are not decisions affecting one school or neighbourhood alone. They influence the direction of public education throughout Iberville Parish.
A Choice for District B Voters
Williams is seeking another term at a moment when experience and fresh leadership will meet on a changing school board.
Her campaign allows her to explain what she has accomplished, what she has learned and what priorities she would carry into another term. It also gives District B voters an opportunity to compare her record and vision with those of Tonette Todd.
At Saint Gabriel Spotlight, our role is to help residents understand the candidates seeking to represent them and the responsibilities connected to each public office.
District B voters will make their choice on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
