Councilman Hoza Redditt Sr.: Serving St. Gabriel Through Music, Education and Leadership

FacebookX TwitterPinterestLinkedInTumblrRedditVKWhatsAppEmail

The lifelong St. Gabriel resident, educator and music mentor is bringing a spirit of creativity, faith and community service to the City Council.

Long before Honorable Hoza Redditt Sr. entered public office, he was already serving his community through music.

As a teacher, composer, church music leader and founder of Angeline Music Academy, Councilman Redditt has spent years helping students develop their talents and confidence.

In 2023, that commitment to service led him toward a new responsibility. After prayerfully deciding to seek political office, he was elected to the St. Gabriel City Council.

Today, he brings the perspective of an educator and lifelong resident into decisions affecting the city he has always called home.

A Lifelong Connection to St. Gabriel

Councilman Redditt is a native and lifelong resident of St. Gabriel.

That personal connection gives him an understanding of the city shaped by lived experience. He has watched the community evolve, knows the importance of its institutions and understands the pride residents carry for their hometown.

For Redditt, serving on the City Council is an opportunity to help guide St. Gabriel’s continued progress while remaining connected to the people, values and traditions that give the city its identity.

His public service reflects a familiar principle throughout his journey: meaningful leadership begins with contributing to the community around you.

An Education Rooted in Music

In 2016, Redditt earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Southern University.

His education prepared him to turn a personal gift into a professional calling. Since 2018, he has worked as a music teacher within the Iberville Parish School System, helping students discover their abilities and experience the discipline, creativity and teamwork that music can develop.

A music educator does more than teach notes, rhythm and performance.

Teachers also help students overcome nervousness, practise consistently, work with others and recognize that improvement comes through patience. Those lessons can remain valuable long after a student leaves the classroom or stage.

Through education, Redditt has helped young people see music as both an artistic outlet and a source of confidence.

Composing Music for His Community

Councilman Redditt’s connection to local education and civic life can also be heard through his original compositions.

He composed the East Iberville School alma mater, creating a song through which generations of students can express pride in their school.

He is also the composer of the City of St. Gabriel’s official theme song.

These works represent more than musical accomplishments. An alma mater or city song gives people a shared expression of belonging. It can connect students, families and residents through words and melodies that celebrate a common identity.

Through his compositions, Redditt has contributed to how both East Iberville School and the City of St. Gabriel tell their stories.

Developing the Next Generation

Redditt is the founder and instructor of Angeline Music Academy, where he has shared his knowledge and love of music with students for more than 12 years.

The academy reflects his dedication to making music education available beyond the traditional classroom.

Young musicians often need individual encouragement, consistent instruction and a safe environment in which they can practise and grow. Through Angeline Music Academy, Redditt has created opportunities for students to develop their abilities under the guidance of someone who understands both performance and education.

His work demonstrates how one person’s talent can become an investment in many other lives.

Every student who develops confidence, discipline or a lasting love of music extends the influence of that investment into the future.

Faith and Service

Faith is another important part of Councilman Redditt’s life.

He is a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Gonzales, where he oversees the music ministry. In that role, he combines spiritual service with the musical gifts that have shaped much of his personal and professional journey.

Leading a music ministry requires preparation, cooperation and sensitivity to the needs of a congregation. It also demonstrates the power of music to bring people together through worship, encouragement and shared purpose.

His church involvement adds another dimension to a life consistently centered on service—within schools, through private instruction, in the faith community and now in municipal government.

Answering the Call to Public Office

In 2023, Redditt prayerfully decided to run for elected office.

St. Gabriel voters elected him to the City Council, giving him the opportunity to contribute to decisions involving municipal services, infrastructure, public safety, recreation and the city’s future development.

His transition into public leadership represents an expansion of the service he was already providing.

The classroom taught him to listen and communicate. Music taught him discipline and collaboration. His academy gave him experience developing young people, while church leadership strengthened his connection to faith and community.

Those experiences now accompany him into City Council discussions and decisions.

A Voice in St. Gabriel’s Continuing Story

Councilman Hoza Redditt Sr.’s journey demonstrates that public service can begin in many places.

It can begin in a classroom, where a teacher helps a student believe in an undiscovered ability. It can grow inside a music academy, where talent is developed through patient instruction. It can be expressed through a church ministry or captured in a song celebrating a school or city.

For Redditt, those different forms of service eventually led to City Hall.

At Saint Gabriel Spotlight, we celebrate residents whose talents and commitment strengthen the community.

Councilman Redditt’s story is one of music transformed into mentorship and community involvement expanded into civic leadership. As St. Gabriel continues moving forward, he is helping shape its next chapter while ensuring that education, faith, creativity and service remain part of the city’s song.
