Sarah Morgan Haydel Poised to Represent District A on Iberville Parish School Board

Running unopposed in the 2026 election cycle, Haydel is preparing to bring her “Strong Schools. Strong Community. Always Together.” message to the parish’s education governing board.

Sarah Morgan Haydel is poised to become the next District A representative on the Iberville Parish School Board.

Haydel qualified for the race on August 5, 2026, with no party affiliation. Because she is the only candidate seeking the District A seat, she is unopposed ahead of the November 3 election.

Her campaign message—“Strong Schools. Strong Community. Always Together.”—connects public education with the wider strength of the community.

While the completion of the official election process remains necessary, Haydel’s unopposed status places her in a strong position to succeed Theresa Roy, the district’s current representative.

What the School Board Does

A school-board member does not manage an individual school or perform the daily responsibilities of a principal or superintendent. Instead, the board provides governance and establishes policies for the administration of the entire parish school system.

That responsibility includes helping to:

  • Approve and oversee the school system’s budget.
  • Establish districtwide education policies.
  • Select and evaluate the superintendent.
  • Review decisions involving facilities, staffing and school operations.
  • Monitor student achievement and financial performance.
  • Support career, technical and workforce-development opportunities.
  • Represent the concerns of families and communities within the district.

Louisiana law states that local school boards serve in a policymaking capacity and should prioritize student achievement, financial efficiency and workforce development when establishing policies.

The position therefore carries responsibilities that can influence students, educators, employees and families throughout Iberville Parish.

Representing District A

The Iberville Parish School Board includes members elected from geographical districts, along with an at-large representative. Theresa Roy currently serves as the District A board member.

If the election and qualification process proceeds as expected, Haydel will become the voice of District A within that governing structure.

Effective district representation requires listening closely to parents, educators, students and residents. It also involves balancing the immediate needs of individual communities with decisions affecting the school system as a whole.

Questions involving academic performance, school facilities, employee support, student safety and career preparation all require thoughtful leadership and cooperation among board members.

Strong Schools and a Strong Community

Haydel’s campaign message reflects the close relationship between public schools and the communities surrounding them.

Strong schools can prepare young people for college, employment, technical careers and entrepreneurship. They can also support families, attract investment and help communities develop future leaders.

At the same time, schools depend on their communities. Students benefit when parents remain engaged, educators feel supported, businesses offer career opportunities and residents participate in public discussions about education.

The words “Always Together” suggest that progress will require collaboration rather than the work of one elected official alone.

That spirit of partnership will be important as Haydel prepares for a position involving public accountability, long-term planning and decisions affecting families throughout District A.

Preparing for Public Service

Running unopposed does not lessen the responsibility attached to the office. It gives Haydel an early opportunity to begin listening, learning and preparing for the work ahead.

Her campaign provides District A residents with an opening to discuss what they want from their next representative and what priorities they believe should shape the future of Iberville Parish schools.

As the transition approaches, families will look to Haydel for accessible communication, responsible decision-making and a willingness to keep students at the centre of every discussion.

At Saint Gabriel Spotlight, our goal is to help residents understand the people seeking to represent them and the responsibilities attached to each public office.

For Sarah Morgan Haydel, the next chapter is taking shape around a clear message: stronger schools and stronger communities are built when people work together.
