The longtime St. Gabriel resident is presenting her law-enforcement experience, criminal-justice education and community service as preparation for the court-related office.
Stephenia “Sue” Jackson is seeking election as Constable of the Justice of the Peace Court for Ward 2 in Iberville Parish.
Jackson, a Democrat, will appear as candidate No. 91 on the November 3, 2026 ballot, according to her campaign material. She is competing against Ricky Jones and Robert Tircuit.
The election is limited to eligible voters living within Justice of the Peace Ward 2, which comprises Iberville Parish precincts 9, 10, 10B, 11 and 12. It is not a parishwide contest.
What Does a Constable Do?
Although a constable’s work is connected to public safety, the position is different from sheriff, police chief or parish council member.
A Louisiana constable serves as the enforcement officer—or marshal—of a justice-of-the-peace court.
Responsibilities may include:
- Serving summonses, warrants and other court documents
- Delivering legal notices
- Executing lawful orders issued by the court
- Processing evictions
- Collecting garnishments
- Enforcing judgments
- Maintaining order while performing court-related duties
Louisiana law authorizes a justice-of-the-peace constable to serve legal process within the parish for cases before the court and to enforce its judgments.
Because constables interact with residents during sensitive legal matters, the position requires professionalism, reliability, impartiality and an understanding of court procedures.
The successful candidate will serve a six-year term.
Jackson’s Experience
Jackson’s campaign presents her as a longtime St. Gabriel resident with extensive experience in criminal justice and law enforcement.
According to her campaign literature, she has worked in the criminal-justice field for 41 years, including 29 years as a law-enforcement officer.
Her public-service background is central to her candidacy. Jackson is asking Ward 2 voters to consider that experience as preparation for carrying out court orders, serving legal documents and interacting professionally with residents.
Her campaign uses the message: “Leadership you can trust. Service you deserve.”
Education and Professional Preparation
Jackson’s campaign also highlights her education.
According to the material provided by her campaign, she holds:
- A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice
- A Master of Business Administration
- A master’s degree in administrative justice
- Ongoing doctoral studies
This combination of criminal-justice and administrative education supports her campaign’s emphasis on both enforcement experience and responsible office management.
Jackson also identifies faith, family and community service as important parts of her life. Her campaign states that she serves as a board member of Higher Heights Family Church.
A Local Court Position With Real Responsibilities
The Ward 2 constable’s race concerns an office that may receive less public attention than mayor, sheriff or parish council—but its responsibilities directly affect residents involved in justice-of-the-peace court matters.
The constable must ensure that lawful documents are delivered, orders are carried out and individuals are treated professionally throughout the process.
For voters, the decision is therefore about who possesses the experience, temperament and community knowledge required to perform those responsibilities fairly and consistently.
If one candidate receives more than half of the Ward 2 vote on November 3, that candidate wins the office. If no candidate receives a majority, the two leading candidates will advance to a December 12 runoff.
At Saint Gabriel Spotlight, our goal is to help residents understand the offices appearing on their ballots and learn more about the people seeking to serve.
Stephenia “Sue” Jackson is asking Ward 2 voters to consider her decades of criminal-justice experience, education and community involvement as they decide who should become their next constable.
